(1) Removable appliances

These are the appliances that can be inserted and removed from mouth according to the will of the patient. It consists of a plastic plate which rests on the roof of mouth supported with some metal clips attached directly to the tooth surface to ensure correct fit without any irritation to the wearer.
Minor malocclusions can be effortlessly corrected by these appliances as they only require limited tooth movement.

(2) Fixed braces

These are fitted on to the surface of teeth which cannot be removed by the patient at will. It consists of clips attached to each tooth surface which are then connected with a wire.

Lingual braces

1) In traditional braces we have metal clips attached to the tooth surface that are connected with a wire which initiates tooth movements.

2) Ceramic braces when compared to traditional braces lies more towards aesthetic side as they mimics the color of the teeth, thus its quite difficult to differentiate between braces and tooth which improves the confidence of the user. They stand as the best option for those patients who are more concerned about the metallic color that traditional brackets offer.

3) Lingual braces are fixed behind the tooth or to the side facing the tongue and they stand as a common alternative to traditional brackets again adding up to the aesthetic side.

(3) Functional appliances

They as loose fitting appliances which provide natural forces of the oral muscles to the teeth and bone. They can increase or decrease jaw size, can change the relationship between jaws and can change the direction of growth of jaws.
They are usually removable appliances that are placed on both upper and lower teeth and are designed to work together as a unit helping to bring desirable changes

Chin Cup

Headgear – These are used during growth period to correct certain skeletal changes. This usually works as a unit with other appliances and is usually worn at night. They take support either from neck or head

Face mask – These are placed on the face taking support from forehead and chin region and can be used for correction of a number of skeletal issues. Growth period is the best time to receive face mask therapy.

Chin cup –These cover chin and is connected to a headgear. This can be used to stop the growth of lower jaw in unwanted direction.
